Netflix lately has aimed to launch teen romantic movies. Yes! we are talking about flick chicks, very similar to classics from the 80s and 90s like “Pretty in Pink” and “10 Things I Hate About You“. Many people consider that these gender of movies are usually predictable and meaningless, but the truth is that the flick chicks fulfill their purpose and entertain us, especially if you are on a Sunday at home doing nothing.

That’s why today I want to talk about the new Netflix success that has everyone talking “All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.”

Lara Jean Song Covey is the classic teenager who does not belong to the group of cool kids, nevertheless, she is beautiful, smart, shy and has good feelings. Lara just started a new year in high school, and her older sister, with whom she has a very close relationship since the death of their mother, is going away to study abroad, but even so, Lara seems to have a normal and calm life.

This 16-year-old has a very romantic perception of love, in fact, loves to read romantic novels, and when she feels that she is falling in love with someone she writes a letter to that person expressing her emotions, but these letters are only for her, not for being sent. However, her life turns upside down when her past lovers get the letters.

One of those letters was intended for Peter Kavinsky, the most popular boy in the school, who had recently split with his girlfriend. Peter, confronts Lara after getting the letter and proposes a plan, pretend to be a couple so he can make his ex-girlfriend get jealous, in exchange for keeping her secret. Lara accepts, and like Nicole (Melissa Joan Hart) and Chase (Adrian Grenier) in the movie “Drive Me Crazy“, both teenagers make the whole school believe that they are the new IT couple. Of course, what begins as an innocent lie starts to get complicated, and that line between feigned and real feelings begins to be blurred.

My Opinion

This is the classic teenage romantic movie with a happy ending, which in some way reminds us of those insecurities and awkward moments we went through in our teenage years in high school such as the importance of being accepted, our first kiss, going to social events etc.

In my opinion, it is an entertaining film and it is perfect for a lazy Sunday at home, if we do not have plans. So, why has it become so popular? It probably has something to do with the actor who plays Peter Kavinsky, Noah Centineo, who seems to have stolen the hearts of this new generation.

Also, I must mention that this movie is based on a novel with the same name written by the  American author Jenny Han, and it has been considered a Best Seller by various means. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before has two sequels, P.S. I Still Love You, released in 2015, and Always and Forever, Lara Jean, released in 2017. So, we can expect Netflix to decide to buy the rights to the sequels and surprise us with a new movie following the adventures of Lara Jean, but who knows?!

Leave a comment below, I would love to read your opinion about the movie. Did you watch it?  Did you loved it or did you hated it?
