Traveling is one of the activities that I enjoy the most, but if I am honest, the only part that bothers me about traveling are airports and flights. In fact, it is something that causes me anxiety, from small details such as being careful to carry the correct weight in each suitcase, have all my documents, to go through all the security controls, etc. Definitely, it’s something I do not enjoy, but over the years I’ve learned to make this experience less uncomfortable and find ways that helps me to reduce my anxiety.
That’s why today I want to share with you guys, some tips about those things you should carry with you in your personal baggage that will help make the experience at the airport less uncomfortable.
But before starting, I would like to clarify that this article is not sponsored by any of the brands that I will mention below, I’m just sharing my experience as a user.
Pack All Your Personal Documents In One Place
I usually carry with me a Victorinox documents organizer for traveling. I love it because it has several compartments that allow you to store your credit cards, passport, identity documents, flight tickets, and money. It is made of a resistant material and is available in different colors.
Of course, you do not necessarily have to buy this one in particular, but this type of organizers are usually practical because airports are fast peace environment where we must have all our documents within reach when we pass through the checkpoints. And have one of this organizer would make your life easier.
A Good Backpack
When we talk about travels we need to take into consideration the fact that airports tend to be a fast paced environment, where we have to go through different security points, so it is important to have the ideal backpack with different pockets and a great storage capacity that allows us to access our things easily and keep everything organized.
If we’re going to travel the first we need to think about is what we need to carry with us. As a freelancer, I travel quite often that’s why it’s important to me to have a backpack that allows me to carry everything I need, such as my passport, phone, personal documents, money, laptop, powerbank, cables, and my camera.
Based on the size of our laptop and the things we need to carry we can choose the size of the backpack and decide if we need one with more than 2 compartments. So far, I use an Incase Icon 15.6″, it has awesome space management and a lot of room inside accompanied by different pockets strategically located in the backpack to store our things. It’s also important to look for backpacks that offer padded support on the shoulders and our back to guarantee greater support and avoid neck pain or discomfort when we use it.
A detail that so many people forget when they’re buying a travel pillow is that not all plane seats are created equal, so not all pillows will work perfectly on all flights. In addition, we must take into consideration aspects such as our height, weight and needs. These details make the fact of choosing a travel pillow even more tricky than it seems.
As a frequent traveler I’ve tried many styles and designs of travel pillows from the memory foam to the ones with squishy beads inside, but until now the best I’ve bought has been the BCOZZY Chin Supporting Travel Pillow.
I’m 5’7” tall and a thin person, so I used to have problems with some pillows because they were too big in the neck area. Nevertheless, this pillow provides great support to my head, neck and chin, preventing my head from falling forward. Among other aspects I can highlight about this pillow are that it’s warm, a big plus for someone who is always cold on planes, you can adjust the pillow in different sleeping positions; and finally, it has a little loop on top to hook it to your luggage.
A Good Sweater Or A Warming Up Cover
I don’t know about you, but I’m usually cold on planes, so I always bring a sweater with me that keeps me warm all the way until my final destination.
I usually carry with me a hoodie with a front pocket, an ideal option if I need to keep my phone in a safe place while I’m signing some documents or if I do some other activity and I don’t want to keep my phone in one of the pockets of my skinny jeans or in my backpack.
I consider that a sweater is an essential garment in our outfit to go to the airport. But of course, the type of sweater will vary according to our needs and styles.
A Powerbank And All Your Chargers
If you expect to be away from a power point for long periods of time, believe me when I say that you will need a power bank. This devices will make your life easier. I have a KMASHI 15000mAh External Battery Power Bank, and I love it because it came with two ports so you can charge two devices at the same time. One of the ports is high speed, while the second one is only 1A.
The design is ergonomic and easy to carry while we’re traveling. But what we should remember when we buy a power bank is what are our most important needs. In my case, the most important thing is to charge my phones, but if you need a power bank for your laptop then you should look for something with greater capacity and that is not so heavy to carry with you.
Finally, it’s important to remember to bring with us the charger of all our devices. I usually carry a small bag with me, where I organize all the cables of my devices, in this way I can access them easily.
And although you can always buy water at the airport, it is much more practical to have our own bottle of water. After we have passed through the security controls of the airport and we are in the waiting room of our flight, we can find a point to fill our bottle and keep us hydrated while we wait.
Some people usually get a flexible water bottle, which can be quite practical, but honestly are not my favorites. I currently use a Bottled Joy as my travel water bottle. It comes available in different colors, the material is of excellent quality, it’s BPA-Free: 100% Non-toxic Food grade material, Eco Friendly, and it has a loop handle that makes it easy to clip in your backpack.
Have A Good Book
If you like to read it is always advisable to have a good book to entertain us before our flight leaves. And although I love books on paper, the reality is that they add unnecessary weight to our carry-on luggage, so it’s always better to look for the digital version and read it from our phone, tablet or laptop.
Download Some Apps On Your Phone
And if you are one of those who do not like to read, you can always download some games that will serve to entertain you while you’re waiting at the airport. In addition, we must remember that it is important to have certain apps such as bank, Uber, google maps, and google translator, among others.
It is always advisable to make a list of applications that we think we will need to use in the country we are going to be and download them before traveling.
Probably one of the most difficult tasks is finding the right makeup to carry in our carry-on bag.
According to the TSA’s guidelines for liquids in carry-ons: ” You are allowed to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your carry-on bag and through the checkpoint. These are limited to travel-sized containers that are 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item. Placing these items in the small bag and separating from your carry-on baggage facilitates the screening process. Pack items that are in containers larger than 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters in checked baggage.”
Luckily, the makeup industry has been aware of this type of inconvenience and today it is possible to find many products in a traveler size. And in regards to the liquid foundation, we can always switch it for a powder presentation. Finally, what we must remember to bring just the essential.
Before starting I would like to clarify that I am a disaster when it comes to taking care of my headphones. For some strange reason I always lose them, so I came to the conclusion that it is better to have two pairs of headphones. A low-range that if I lose them I will not feel that I will have a heart attack, and a high-range that allow you to have the best sound experience.
My low-range headphones are the Arrela magnetic wireless with IPX4 microphone. Honestly, the quality is excellent for its price, they have a practical and ergonomic design, they are waterproof and this headphone provide up to 5 hours talk time and 6 hours music play time as well as up to 100 hours of standby time, and charges in 1-2 hours. I really consider them an smart purchase, and these are the headphones that I usually use to travel.
But if you are really looking for something of better quality and you are like me who hates earbuds, you should try the Bose QuietComfort 35 (Series II) headphones that offer a high quality sound reproduction, and have Noise Canceling, they are Wireless Headphones, and they bring integrated the Alexa Voice Control system.
